In a beloved North Branch tradition, Primary teacher Sarah Gerome and her class celebrated Chinese New Year. Primary II spent weeks preparing drawings, decorations and scrolls. This year the dragon needed special refurbishing – the giant from St.George had been lying on the dragon in storage! The dragon turned out more beautiful than ever. The class spent part of the morning preparing trays of treats for each class. The class, costumed as the Dragon, delivered treats to each room. Each class was wished Happy New Year and given a tray that included oranges, dried melon, candy and good luck money. Many of the older students remembered when it was their turn in the dragon in years past. Everybody got to touch the dragon and make a wish for the upcoming year. At lunchtime, the class enjoyed a banquet that included dumplings, fried rice, oranges, fortune cookies, and other yummy things. At the end of the day, the dragon was paraded into afternoon assembly.
