St. George and The Dragon – An Annual Tradition

Students at North Branch have performed the play St. George and The Dragon since the school was founded. It is a popular and much-loved annual tradition, attended by both current students and their families, as well as many alumni. The plot remains the same from year to year, but many of the songs, skits and costumes evolve. One of the enduring features of our play is the Abbot’s Bromley Horn Dance, an ancient dance that originated in England in the 1200s. The horns used in the dance in the originating village of Abbots Bromley were carbon-dated at approximately 1,000 years old. North Branch’s production of St. George and The Dragon is performed on or close to the Winter Solstice – it is a lovely way to honor the old year and welcome the new.
