The Senior class (5th-6th graders) has been reading Dar and the Spear Thrower, by Marjorie Cowley. The book is a coming-of-age story: “A young boy living 15,000 years ago in southeastern France is initiated into manhood by his clan and sets off on a journey to trade his valuable fire rocks for an ivory spear thrower.” To make the story come alive, Stuart and Margaret have been teaching the seniors fire-making skills and how to build debris huts. All of this activity will culminate in an optional overnight in the North Branch woods. Here are some photos from Stuart:
