Glass-blowing event benefits North Branch

NBS parent Minh Martin, from South River Artisans, visited us on Friday at assembly, and shared with us his amazing hand-blown glass. The students got to examine several beautiful goblets, an ornament and a bowl. They were full of questions, and we all learned a lot about glass-blowing; for example,  glass melts at about 2400 degrees Fahrenheit. Did you know that, most likely, the Egyptians were the first people to produce glass vessels? This coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, December 9th-11th, everyone is invited to come to the studio to create their own glass ornament. The cost for making your own ornament will be $25, and the proceeds will benefit NBS! Thank you to Minh and the studio for this opportunity. If you’d like to hear more, this Friday, the 9th, WMRA will be featuring the studio and artists on The Spark, their radio magazine on creativity.  The program will air from 12pm-1pm.

You can also shop for other works in metal or pottery at the event this weekend. From the South River studio: nationally recognized artists in glass, clay and metal will hold their annual open studio tour with works and demonstrations, as well as an opportunity for visitors to participate in the creation of blown glass pieces. Free, open to the public and kids are encouraged to attend. The studio is located at 200 E. 12th St. Waynesboro, VA 22980.  For more information, call 540-290-0561 or visit the Facebook page.
