The Morefield Gem Mine

Last Wednesday, Maggie and Michael took the Senior Class on a trip to the Morefield Gem Mine in Amelia County. The trip was the fourth time North Branch students have visited. It is a long distance from North Branch, but worth it – the mine has a pegmatite vein running through it, and students found minerals in plentiful quantities. Amazonite was the most common, followed by mica, garnet, citrine and amethyst. The field trip was timed to coincide with a unit on geology.
