When word reached the North Branch community of the November attacks in Mumbai, the students and faculty gathered to remember former NBS student, Naomi Scherr. The students created a garden in Naomi’s memory situated where visitors can draw strength from the view of the Blue Ridge Mountains, which have weathered many a storm through the centuries.
Naomi’s mother, Kia Scherr, also started the Naomi Scherr Memorial Scholarship with money that Naomi had saved for her eagerly anticipated high school experience. Kia sent these words along with her donation: “Her years at North Branch were magical – filled with fun, inspired learning, creativity, and friendship. Thank you…for the contribution you make to the community and our world by being North Branch School.”
